The sea shark bridge is part of the Crown Bridges tramway and serves not only trams, but also pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge is closed to motor vehicles, except for rescue vehicles.
The bridge is 422 meters long. The tramway runs in the middle of it and has sidewalks on both sides. The width at the northern edge is 2.5 meters, at the southern side 2.5-3.5 meters. A 4-meter-wide cycle path runs along the southern edge. The structure of the bridge is a reinforced concrete continuous slab bridge and the lighting is implemented with luminaires that can be hung on shared poles.
The highest point of the bridge is located at the intersection of the Coal Harbour Bridge – the rise from Hakaniemenranta is slight and descends equally softly towards Sompasaari. For special situations, the bridge also has a part that can be opened with a mobile crane.
