The Tapiola swimming pool renovation and extension, Espoo

We are involved in the renovation and expansion project of the Tapiola swimming hall. The project supports the local sports culture and promotes a sense of community and the well-being of city residents.

In the project, all the indoor and outdoor areas of the swimming hall are renovated and partially rebuilt. We will implement the project in close cooperation with the City of Espoo, respecting the original architectural appearance of the swimming hall and responding to the requirements of modern building technology.

The Tapiola Swimming Hall, located near the Tapiola Central Pool, was completed in 1965 and was designed by architect Aarne Ervi as a significant part of the Tapiola Central Area and the cultural environment. The swimming pool has been out of public use since 2016.

The design and implementation emphasise the preservation of the cityscape and architectural values of the Tapiola Swimming Hall, under the protection regulations of the National Board of Antiquities and the ELY Centre. The swimming hall will be restored to its original outfit, and an extension will be built in connection with it, where the new technical facilities and changing rooms will be located. The window part of the roof dome of the main pool hall is preserved. Additionally, the outdoor area, as well as the extension completed in 2005, will undergo thorough repairs.

During the project, the aim is to minimize the environmental impact, for example, by utilising material recycling and solutions that support sustainable development, such as a long service life, easy repairability and low environmental stress.

Construction work began in May 2025, with completion expected in spring 2028. The total value of the project for YIT is approximately EUR 35 million.
