Kupittaan kärki Partnership Project, Turku
We are building an urban railway in Espoo and Kauniainen that promotes greener modes of transport and supports the development of the urban environment.
The second regional project of the Espoo City Railway project focuses on the Kauniainen railway station area. The project is part of the Espoo City Railway Area Contract 2 (AU2) in Kauniainen and is part of the larger Espoo City Railway project. The contract includes track construction, foundation work, as well as the construction of bridges and stations. Construction work on the site began in early 2024 and the project will last until the first half of 2028. The project is implemented as a work consortium with NRC Group Finland.
In the project, foundation reinforcements are made, such as a drill pile wall and retaining walls, as well as the under- and superstructure of the track and electrical track work. Changes are being carried out at the Kauniainen station, and more bridges are being built, such as the Kera underpass bridge, Hiidenpolun bridge and the Kauniainen overpass and underpass bridge. In the project, two additional rails will be built next to the current track pair between Leppävaara and Kauklahti. The project also includes improving pedestrian and cycling paths.
The Espoo City Railway project is part of the development of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area's public transport system, which aims to improve the punctuality and fluidity of commuter train traffic and enable uninterrupted train traffic. This project is also the first stage in the implementation of the high-speed Helsinki-Turku train connection. The project improves the flow of local train traffic between Leppävaara and Kauklahti. In addition, the project promotes greener modes of transport and supports the development of the urban environment.
