Wind farm, Lestijärvi

The building rights of the Lestijärvi wind power project we developed were sold to OX2 in early 2021

We sold the building rights of the wind power project we developed in the municipality of Lestijärvi, Central Ostrobothnia, to the Nordic renewable energy company OX2. In the transaction, the energy company received the project rights for the construction of 72 wind turbines, enabling a total production capacity of approximately 400 MW, as well as the construction of a new 400-kV transmission line from Lestijärvi to Alajärvi. The annual energy production of the Lestijärvi wind farm is 1.3 terawatt-hours, which is approximately two per cent of the total electricity production in Finland. The total planning area is 6,000 hectares.

After construction, OX2 will remain responsible for the technical and financial management of the wind farm. The construction work has started with the construction of the power line and the wind farm is expected to start its operations at the beginning of 2025. YIT does not act as the builder of a wind farm. The project now comprises 72 wind turbines with a total capacity of 455.4 megawatts. The municipality of Lestijärvi will receive approximately EUR 2.5 million per year in property tax from the wind farm.

The development of wind power has long been an important part of the work towards achieving climate goals in Finland. In early 2021, YIT has several ongoing wind power development projects. YIT contributes to developing renewable energy forms with its own wind power construction projects and innovative infrastructure solutions for wind farms.
