The Tapiola swimming pool renovation and extension, Espoo
We are building a new swimming center in Kuortane together with the Kuortane Sports Institute Foundation and the municipality of Kuortane. Once completed, the swimming center will be one of the most significant swimming halls in Finland.
The project aims to advance the facilities for Finnish swimming sports. When finished, the new Swimming Center will stand among the country’s most important centers, featuring an Olympic-sized pool (25 x 50 m, depth 2 m)—one of only three in Finland, and the only one with a uniform depth. The center will include a grandstand with about 500 seats, a multifunctional pool for water aerobics and training, a teaching pool, and a children’s wading pool. Additional amenities include a water slide, hot and cold pools, modern sauna areas, changing rooms, as well as a Wibit and a virtual workout area. The total floor area is approximately 6,200 m², with a volume of 40,000 m³ and more than 2,000 m² dedicated to pool space.

The project is financed by the state (€4 million), the municipality of Kuortane (€4.2 million), and the Kuortane Sports Institute Foundation (€9.3 million). The swimming center is a great example of cooperation between the private sector, municipality, and the state. The new center will offer better opportunities for recreational swimming to local residents and the region, and expand the range of sports available at the sports high school. The Sports Institute Foundation’s mission is to promote elite sports, ensure conditions for vocational training, and develop education in free civic studies.
YIT’s contract share in the project is approximately €11 million. Construction began in August 2024, and the Swimming Center is scheduled to be completed in April 2026.
