The Tapiola swimming pool renovation and extension, Espoo
We have built a new pedestrian and cycling bridge in Oulu, which has improved the everyday mobility of residents in the area.
We have built a new pedestrian and cycling bridge in Oulu that will enable a more diverse use of the river estuary and the area's recreational routes, and improve the everyday movement of the area's residents. The bridge will be a visually striking, double-span steel arch bridge connecting the Lipporanta and Vaakunakylä districts. The bridge is 170 meters long.
The bridge was selected in a design competition with a competition entry called Siivenkantama. The bridge is also part of the Oulu 2025 housing fair area.

The pedestrian and bicycle path crosses the bridge in a symmetrical S-curve with a horizontal radius of 192 meters. The vertical alignment is also symmetrical, with a radius of 3,000 meters. At the center, the elevation is +5.50 meters, tapering to +4.50 meters at the ends. The standard width of the path is 4.5 meters, widening to 6.2 meters along the outer curve near the center.
The bridge is constructed entirely of steel. Both the deck and the arch are airtight box structures, ensuring strength and durability. The deck maintains a consistent structural depth of 1 meter across its length. The arch is generally 1 meter high, increasing to 1.20 meters at the intermediate support. Its width varies from 1.50 meters at the supports to 1 meter at the highest points. The arch tilts approximately 22 degrees toward the outer curve, giving the bridge a dynamic profile. The arch and the underside of the deck are finished in white, while the railings and suspension rods are painted black.
The bridge will transform the urban environment of Oulu, offering places to stop and observe marine nature, and facilitating the everyday movement of city residents between the Hietasaari and Tuira districts. The bridge will create a light, bird-like figure in the Oulu river estuary landscape as a characteristic of the new residential area of Hartaanselänranta.
The project will involve street and landscaping work, concreting work, supported trenches, anchoring work, and piling. It will be illuminated with special lighting. The Hartaansaari boat lane passes under it. Work started in 2023, and the bridge was completed in the summer of 2025.
