Kannisto School, Vantaa

We completed the first phase of the school complex, including primary school, daycare, and special education facilities, in 2013. Over the years, the need for additional space has grown alongside the area’s population. Approximately ten years later, we expanded the school and upgraded the existing facilities to support new educational activities. 

The project was carried out as a design-build turnkey contract for the City of Vantaa. It included both the construction of a new extension and modifications to the existing school building, implemented in phases to ensure the continuity of school operations. 

Construction of the extension began in December 2023 and was completed in spring 2025. Renovation work in the existing building took place in summer 2024 and from summer to September 2025. The extension provides facilities for approximately 580 students, and the entire school complex will serve nearly 990 students upon completion. The spaces were designed specifically for lower secondary subject teaching and special education. 

The building has a modern and functional design that supports versatility and new learning environments. The project value was approximately EUR 19 million. 

Sustainability was a key consideration, reflected in healthy and high-quality spaces as well as energy-efficient technical solutions.
