Moving always incurs costs, whether you do it with the help of friends or professionals. Using professionals is effortless, but you might be wondering about the price. The cost of a moving service is determined by factors such as square meters, distance in kilometers, the number of moving boxes/belongings, heavy items, the presence of an elevator, and the number of floors.

We made an indicative calculation so you can compare the costs of a moving service and a DIY move. The example is based on an 8-hour move with a crew of 6 friends and a moving distance of 25 km.

• Remember to insure your volunteer moving crew. Accidents can always happen! A back can go out when carrying heavy items, or a toe can break if the corner of a piano drops on it.
• Protect your belongings carefully. Furniture dent and scratch easily, especially when carrying large items.
• Protect the floors; they also damage easily during a move.
• Remember to stay hydrated, moving is heavy work. You don't want to deal with a nauseous moving crew on top of everything else.
• Don't underestimate the need for help; ask plenty of people to join your moving crew. No one is happy facing a chaotic mess instead of just helping carry the promised sofa.
• Sort your belongings and label the boxes using masking tape, for example, so you know where things belong in your new apartment.
• Forget about tearing bags and banana boxes. Pack your items in proper moving boxes. They can be stacked, their bottoms won't give out, and they are easy to carry.
