Environmentally active home is YIT’s concept through which we describe the choices made in construction that affect the environment.
We are committed to the goals of the Paris Agreement and have set emission reduction targets for our own operations and value chain extending to 2030. Our goal is to reduce emissions from our own operations by 90% and from our value chain by 30% from the 2019 level. To achieve these targets, we have chosen key measures to reduce the environmental impact of construction. The finished home also enables you to take environmental actions in your everyday life.
This is how we promote the achievement of the goals in Kaarinan Sudenkorento:

Emission calculation
Carbon footprint calculations are used in residential construction to, among other things, select materials with lower environmental impacts.

Renewable electricity at a construction site
Wind-generated EKOenergy electricity is used at the construction site.

Recycling at a construction site
At least 75% of the waste from our construction site is sorted for recycling.

Water fixtures
Water-saving plumbing fixtures, such as faucets and showers, are installed in the kitchen, bathroom, and toilet.

Recycling at a housing company
In a pneumatic waste collection system, waste is deposited through a hatch on the building’s exterior wall and transported through underground pipes for recycling, which can reduce garbage truck traffic in the area.

Waste sorting system at home
The kitchen is equipped with a sorting station that enables recycling.

Solar panels
Renewable energy helps cover the housing company's electricity consumption.

Electric car charging points
All parking spaces are equipped with charging point readiness for electric vehicles, making it easy to install a charging device when needed.

Carsharing
The need to own a car is reduced when renting a leased car from the housing company is convenient and affordable.

Water consumption
Apartment-specific water consumption monitoring in the YIT Plus service can help save water.

Monitoring of technical building systems
YIT’s Valvomo-service (Control room) supports, among other things, the energy-efficient use of ventilation and heating.
