Sulkavuori central wastewater treatment plant, excavation contract 1, Tampere

We excavated the first part of the Sulkavuori central wastewater treatment plant in 2019.

The contract involved the excavation and reinforcement of the access tunnels for the treatment plant as well as the necessary surface excavation at the site. YIT has previously removed contaminated soil from the site.

The volumes were as follows: excavation 7,000 m3, quarrying 63,200 m3 and tunnelling 64,000 m3 Additional quarrying of 28,000 m3 was conducted as additional work.

Serving the environment was also important in this contract. We explained to local people what was going on at the site and that work on the site caused no danger to the environment.

When completed, the Sulkavuori central wastewater treatment plant in Tampere will be a state-of-the-art underground facility that serves the region’s industry and about half a million people. The project is the largest environmental investment in the Pirkanmaa region, due for completion in 2024. In addition to Tampere, the municipalities of Kangasala, Lempäälä, Pirkkala, Vesilahti and Ylöjärvi are involved in Tampereen Seudun Keskuspuhdistamo Oy, the client of the contract.
