Road maintenance

The maintenance of roads, streets and areas is a year-round service which ensures the functionality and the preservation of value of our daily living environment. Our long experience of regional contract management has established our activities throughout Finland. We are able to provide a full-service solution for road maintenance as well as networks all around Finland and an operating model and service level suitable for the needs of your municipality. If necessary, we handle road maintenance with a life cycle model. Also green areas construction and municipal engineering are a part of our special competence.

For the customer, our service means that the service level of the road network meets the agreed standards on every day of the contract, all the year. As the largest building trade service company in the country, we provide extensive technical competence, a subcontracting culture polished after years of experience as well as competent resources. Our finalised, advanced operating systems used in the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the contract are an especially important part of our reliability and cost-efficiency in road maintenance.

Works included in regional contracts include, among other things, winter maintenance, traffic sign work, pavement patching, spontaneous maintenance work, green area work, tunnel washing and technical maintenance, ditching and graffiti removal. We also keep the green areas, parks, playgrounds and sports areas of cities and municipalities tidy and safe.

Protective safety car in road maintenance and as protection for road users

When road maintenance actions are performed in routes with high traffic, ensuring a safe working environment is of paramount importance both from the perspective of the workers and the bypassing traffic. YIT has improved the safety of all road users by developing a protective safety car providing many safeguards, which is an important part of the road maintenance operating model. Protective safety cars are widely used elsewhere in the world, for example, in preliminary warning duties, in case of road accidents and when a tow truck is needed. YIT was the first one to introduce the protective safety car in Finland in 2010.

Its equipment includes an aluminium impact attenuator that receives an impact by means of a spring-operated system. The attenuator can be operated safely from the cab using a remote control. In addition to the impact attenuator, the high speeds and loads of traffic are taken into consideration in the weight of the protective safety car so that the car can receive an impact as safely as possible.

Thanks to its comprehensive fittings, the protective safety car can also be used in various traffic management duties, and it also enables a quick transfer from one work site to another.
