From Sörnäistenniemi to Sompasaari

Our residential construction in Kalasatama is concentrated in two areas, Sörnäistenniemi and Sompasaari. Poiju and Styyri developments are located in Sörnäistenniemi. The area will be completed during 2018. Our next development in Kalasatama will move south in the direction of Sompasaari. There we will build a seaside block with four residential developments. The first of them, Takila, is a Hitas development, and the sales of its apartments are estimated to begin in early summer 2017. Sompasaari is one of the eleven areas of Kalasatama. Construction there has already begun, and it is estimated to be completed in the middle of 2020s. Historically Sompasaari was a round, high and rocky island. It was flattened in the 1960s for the use of the Sompasaari harbour. In the future Sompasaari will be home to about 3000 residents.

In Kalasatama you are close to everything

The metro trip from Kalasatama to the Central Railway Station takes six minutes, to Itäkeskus eight minutes. The Kalasatama centre will serve as an intersection of public transport in the future, connecting Kalasatama to the city centre and other parts of the Helsinki metropolitan area. Kalasatama is also accessible by tram, bus and car – or by cycling along the shore promenade. Sompasaari’s neighbouring area Nihti is located at the southern end of Kalasatama. There are plans to connect Nihti by tram via Kruunu bridges to Merihaka and the centre of Helsinki.

Outdoor activities and culture

Kalasatama is surrounded by the sea on three sides. The most central park – Kalasatamanpuisto, which will be built in the mid-2010s – will be an urban recreational area that will also provide a venue for a diversity of events. Via the new Isoisänsilta bridge you can walk to Mustikkamaa in only a few minutes. Mustikkamaa is the recreational oasis of the area, and through the island you can also reach the Korkeasaari zoo. In the future, a pedestrian and bicycle route will run along the shore from the mouth of the Vantaanjoki river via Arabianranta and Kalasatama to Merihaka. If you love the ambiance of an urban, vibrant city culture, Kalasatama and its surroundings are an ideal place to live in. The former power plant of Suvilahti nowadays provides facilities for various studios, artists and creative businesses, and it is the venue for the popular Flow Festival. Also the Teurastamo area nearby offers a wide range of hip events from Farmers’ Markets to block parties.
