Stora Enso head office renovation, Helsinki

The interior of Stora Enso's head office in Katajanokka, Helsinki has been given a complete overhaul.

The functionality and technology of this valuable building, completed in 1962, were reaching the end of their life cycles when the decision to modernise was made. The building's exterior was left untouched, but the interior was renovated completely. The old, wide hallways with their cubicle offices were converted into spacious open spaces suitable for team work. At the same time, the use of space in the building was made for efficient: the building can now accommodate 260 employees instead of the previous 170. The renovation was carried out in cooperation with the National Board of Antiquities and the Alvar Aalto foundation, in order to ensure the preservation of the building's cultural value.
