The new spillage route and channel at the Bergeforsen power plant improve the power plant's safety significantly.

Bergeforsen

The Bergeforsen power plant, owned by Vattenfall AB and Eon Vattenkraft Sverige AB, was built in the mid-1950s. Revised safety regulations and preparations for the climate change created a need for making major improvements to the power plant. The goal was to improve its safety level clearly.

Bergeforsen is located the most downstream of all hydro-electric power plant on the river Indal. Its tailrace channel releases the water at sea level near Timrå. The height of the backwater is 23 metres.

At Bergeforsen, we constructed a new spillage gate and related channels to complement the three existing gates. The new spillage gate increases the spillage capacity from 2,300 m³ per second to 3,800 m³ per second and improves the safety level of the power plant significantly.

The project encompassed temporary cofferdams, concrete structures for the gate systems, open pit excavation for the surge tank and a railway underpass which was used throughout the project. The project also included extensive landscaping.
