Parliament Annex
The new annex of the Parliament House was completed in June 2004 and inaugurated in the September of the same year. The floor area of the building is about 10,000 m².
The main contractor was YIT, carrying out the tunnel, foundation and frame contracts, as well as the interior decoration and building systems work.
Arkkitehtitoimisto Helin & Co won the design competition for the parliament annex with their design called Natur Rutan. The annex has two parts, with the triangular, higher part mainly clad in dark clay brick. Granite has been used for the lower, cone-shaped part. The large cone-shaped glass wall towards the north completes the impressive facade. The internals are dominated by wood as well as granite excavated from different parts of Finland.
